Cari Makan…

Just realized how long it has been since I last blogged. A lot of things happened in one month. Most of my ‘adventures’ revolved largely around the office, but the best were the movie and food outings I had.

This is my first entry about the 2 places I visited and tried out. These places have been around now for sometime, however it is my first time there.

Fatty Mee Hoon Kuih House

This restaurant is located in the heart of Eng Ann. Was there for their famous Mee Hoon Kuih. Thanks to JY, he took my friend (and client) EL and EL’s friend A there since EL was bugging me to make a trip to go look for place in Klang which sells great mee hoon kuih.

Went there a Sunday afternoon. Would recommend to go there from 3pm onwards if you are going on the weekends, since the lunch crowd would have thinned out a little. It is a little shop in a row of shops, and from the outside, other than the bright yellow signboard announcing its presence, the jam outside the shop and crowd of people standing around for their orders would be hard to miss.

JY helped order our bowls. Because it was so packed inside the shop, we ended up sharing a table with a lady who was eating by herself at the far back of the shop.

A word of warning, be dressed in your most casual, as the wait could leave you a sweaty mess. Yes, the inside of the shop is warm, and it does not help that it was a hot day when we went. To keep cool, we ordered what the others were ordering, iced Cincau-Soya. Seems like everyone is ordering the same. It was either this or Cincau-Barley, though this is not so much of a hit compared to Cincau-Soya.

Waited and waited, and our orders came 45 warm minutes later. According to JY, he ordered the large serving for all of us. The mee hoon kuih came in large plastic bowls, with the option of having chili padi with soy sauce for the added oomph in a small sauce plate. It was a worth the 45 minutes wait.

The mee hoon kuih came in clear anchovies soup which is very aromatic. The mee hoon kuih itself was ‘hand-pulled’ and had a soft and smooth texture to it. EL was literally slurping on the the mixture of dough and soup, clearly obvious that it was a great bowl of mee hoon kuih.

The shop has an old feel of it, and after chatting with the owner, he mentioned that this shop have been there for 25 years. Surprising right? Well, goes to show I have not had much of a gastronomic experience in Klang’s many eateries. JY later revealed that he used to follow his parents to this shop when he was younger. Goes to show that this shop have definitely been around for quite a while.

Satay Kajang Hj Samuri

Checked that there are already many entries praising this outlet in Kajang. Then found out that there is already an outlet in Klang. What happened to the ‘trill’ of having to drive all the way to Kajang just to eat Kajang satay?

Was in Kajang with Mum, Bro and Uncle, and it was already around lunch time, so Bro decided to take us to go eat at ‘the famous satay’ place there.

Just realized that this place has a chain of outlets, which means it is already becoming the McD of satay outlets. From the seating layout to the ambience, it has a Malay house sort of feel. The place was organized, and focusing on their main specialty the satay, their menu was limited in terms of ala-carte choices.

As we were ordering their satays, the satay dip sauces and bowls came first while we waited for our main course. As the weather was hot, I decided to have ABC Teringin which was only RM3 on their menu. Mum, Uncle and Bro then decided that instead of a drink, they too would join me to eat ice. Lol. Realized I did not take a picture of the ABC when I got back and uploaded the pictures from my phone.

We had their chicken satay, and since Mum and Uncle wanted some fish in their diet, tried out their fish satay too. Bro commented that the last few times he was there, he tried ordering the fish satay but they ran out of fish so no chance of trying. Ordered their ketupat as well, by per-plate instead of per-piece. Left all this ordering to Bro since he has been here before.

The satay was served in less than 15 minutes. Quite fast, if you ask me, since dishes and dishes of it were carried out at a very fast pace by the many waiters there. The chicken satay was not too burnt, and succulent to the bite. For RM0.60 per stick, no complaints. Did not quite like the fish satay though. Found it had a fishy taste. Oh well, its fish anyway and Mum and Uncle loved it.

I would definitely go back to both these places if I am in the vicinity. There are many more places I have not been to, and food which I have not tried, but I will one day…
